Dan Polansky: There was a time when some shady company owning SourceForge was inserting dubious elements into SourceForge downloads. That was under DHI Group/Dice Holdings, I think (double check). That has changed with new owners of SourceForge, from what I know, although the article below sheds some doubt on it. Be it as it may, I know of no indication that FreeMind downloads are compromised in any way or install undesirable elements.

SourceForge vs. GitHub

FreeMind has been using SourceForge since 2001 or thereabouts. As of late, GitHub became increasingly popular.

Dan Polansky: I see no pressing advantage of GitHub over SourceForge, which also offers Git hosting. I hate fashions (and fashionable nonsense).

As of Jan 2026, Apache OpenOffice uses SourceForge downloads[2]. If they did not trust SourceForge, they would not do so.
